A practical seminar on DfE core standards for schools

Our recent seminar at Crawley College brought together IT Network Managers, IT Directors, School Business Managers and other education leaders for a practical day focused on DfE core standards for schools.

The aim of the event was to bring together some of the key conversations currently happening across education technology, safeguarding and compliance. Throughout the day, the sessions explored current expectations, common challenges and practical insight from across the sector.

Alongside the DMS team, we were pleased to welcome guest speakers from Hammer Distribution, senso.cloud and Vivi. The day covered DfE core standards for schools, Microsoft Copilot for Education, digital safeguarding, and Martyn’s Law.

A day shaped around current issues in education technology

The DfE core standards were a key theme throughout the seminar, with discussion around what schools are seeing on the ground and why these areas continue to matter.

Rather than approaching the standards as a tick-box exercise, the sessions opened up broader discussion around the pressures schools are facing, the decisions being made around technology, and the wider expectations linked to resilience, safeguarding and compliance.

Wider discussion around AI, safeguarding and Martyn’s Law

The session on Microsoft Copilot for Education looked at how AI is starting to enter the conversation in schools, including the opportunities it may present as well as the importance of clear oversight and responsible use.

Digital safeguarding was another important part of the day, particularly as schools continue to work through growing expectations around monitoring, visibility and reporting. The session from Vivi also brought in the practical implications of Martyn’s Law, with useful discussion around emergency procedures, preparedness and communication ahead of the 2027 requirements.

Strong engagement throughout the day

One of the most valuable parts of the seminar was the level of discussion in the room.

There were plenty of questions and shared experiences across the day, which helped make the sessions feel grounded and relevant. It was clear that many attendees are working through similar challenges, even if their starting points and priorities differ.
